Ancestral Skills Sharing
Reviving & learning traditional skills is part of us remembering our truest, most integrated selves, rooted within the landscape, finding harmony with our own cultural history, with respect to the First Nations of this Land.
The learning & sharing of skills is what makes our way of living, in the location we do, possible. We celebrate a continual process of learning, from elders, many skilled craftspeople over the years, & very importantly, from the Land directly. Whatever skills we have accumulated over the years we are more than happy to share, & we are always hoping for opportunities to learn from others! Some of our learning (some in depth, some just scratching the surface) has been in: Log building, timberframing & woodworking, survival & subsistence skills, hunting, trapping, & preparing of hides, fibre arts including spinning, felting, knitting, crochet, naalbinding, embroidery, & sewing, coiled basketry, foraging for both wild & medicinal plants, herbalism, cooking with fire and earth ovens, sustainable agriculture & subsistence farming, sustainable fishery, & integrated movement. For those interested in exchanges, we are very interested in pursuing further study in the areas of: vine & withy basketry, wild clay ceramics, underwood & hedge management, earth building, archery, and various movement traditions.
In future we hope to help facilitate gatherings in both NWT & Nova Scotia, where individuals can both receive and offer workshops in a variety of ancestral skills.
